Airlie Beach - Driving

Take advantage of Airlie Beach and the magnificent Whitsunday's by driving. You can take yourself through the abundant, tropical, rainforests of the mainland and to secluded bays set in crystal blue waters by the coastline.

The town of Airlie Beach lies amidst 74 tropical islands, lush rainforests and the Great Barrier Reef, so what better way to arrive in and explore it, than by driving? The Whitsunday's area can be accessed by car from the Bruce Highway, which is the major road that covers the East coast of Queensland from Cairns to Brisbane. If you decide to drive along the Bruce Highway to Airlie Beach from either Brisbane or Cairns, you'll need to turn off about one kilometre north of Proserpine and then expect a 20km trip to the town of Airlie Beach.

Dependant on driving conditions, time from Brisbane is around 12 hours north to Airlie Beach and 8 hours south from Cairns. Make sure however to allow a small amount of time for stops and/or traffic delays. The roads into Airlie Beach and its surrounding areas like Cannonvale, Proserpine and Shute Harbour are suitable for all types of vehicles, which makes the whole area easily accessible anytime of the year.
